How did you get into this profession? I’m from Columbus, but I was living and working in Los Angeles when I went to an executive search firm that specialized in advertising, marketing and publishing. The owners were leaders in their industry and they were great people. Instead of getting me a job with one of their clients, they gave me a job working with them.
Are companies hiring, stagnant or reducing staff? My perception is that companies are cautiously moving forward with hiring.
How can social media influence job search success? A candidate who successfully leverages social media can create connections and expand their engagement with people and companies to produce a greater likelihood of achieving their goals. Participation is key. Benefits can be expansive.
What are job candidates’ two biggest mistakes that prevent hires? Job candidates’ two biggest mistakes that prevent hires are when they are not able to convincingly express who they are and what they want to do. These are seemingly elemental, but can hurt you if you haven’t prepared appropriately.
How do you see your profession’s future? Companies and their leaders must ensure they’re effectively putting the right resources and strategies toward efforts that create a culture of advocacy. That will allow them to hire better and hire faster, which is what my firm is doing with an innovative program we’ve created to address the future of talent acquisition.
