Last night, I had the chance to be at the The Overwatch Partnership & Bunker Labs event that was held at Rev1 Ventures. It was all about our veterans and mentoring...whether you can be one or seek to gain one. The panel, led by moderator Mike Nemeth, offered insights to the value a mentor can bring to your business and career as well as how being one can be a rewarding endeavor.
The Overwatch Partnership is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in Columbus, OH in 2016 by veterans Eric Gentzel, Jon Rust, and Mike Rogers to support veterans as they transition into the civilian job arena. Each experienced the challenging transition from active duty to the civilian workforce, understanding both the unique challenges veterans face in their transition, while also grasping the valuable experiences and skills veterans can provide to a hiring organization. In realizing the enormous power of networking and mentorship in their own careers, they decided to create an organization to collectively use their networks to support veterans in the transition and sustainment of a fulfilling career.
The name of the organization provides significant meaning behind their mission. “Overwatch” is a military term that is defined as providing cover to a fellow service member, which is the essence of their cause.
Bunker Labs provides a peer-learning environment for veteran entrepreneurs. At Bunker Labs, veteran entrepreneurs and their key staff members learn from one another in an environment of peer-to-peer collaboration and accountability.
