I took advantage of the great events going on this morning and hit the second stop at Capital University for Creative Mornings Columbus. Immigration is a complex issue in the U.S. and it’s not often that I’ve gotten to hear a Dreamer’s story. Elvis Saldias shared his journey from Bolivia as a toddler with his sister and mother to Ohio. Elvis is a DACA recipient and advocate. He’s a community organizer working with Dacatime.com. My understanding of the issues surrounding DACA grew from this morning’s program and I’m happy to have had the chance to be there.
“Civic engagement means being American.” -Elvis Saldias
I make it a habit to attend Creative Mornings Columbus because of the stories that are told and the people I meet. I recommend attending if you want to make a great start to your day once a month (on a Friday).
